Do You Have Dark Under Eye Circles Or Puffiness?

Do You Have Dark Under Eye Circles Or Puffiness? 0

As we age, the signs of aging become most prominent around the eyes. This is because in our early thirties, the production of growth hormones slow down and the production of stress hormones often increase. This causes little lines begin to develop under the eyes.

Lack of sleep, allergies, climate, stress, a nose job, salty foods and genetics can also exacerbate the appearance of wrinkles, dark circles, and puffiness. So it’s no wonder that aging around the eyes is one of the most common complaints from women.

3 Pillars to Living a Beautiful Life

3 Pillars to Living a Beautiful Life 0

I’m always being asked why I end my emails with “Live beautifully” and what exactly does that mean. And every time I am asked, it catches me off-guard. Being beautiful is everything to me but beauty is much deeper than the outside appearance. In order to be truly beautiful, I believe one must live a beautiful life.

A beautiful life is one that makes you feel surrounded by love, full of inspiration, and overflowing with positivity. Even with its difficulties and challenges, life can be beautiful. Follow these three pillars and you will surely #LiveBeautifully.

Pillar #1 – Beautiful Relationships

Women are multifaceted and we do our best of over-achieve at all of our commitments. We are constantly re-balancing our lives to include one more commitment; however, when we overcommit ourselves, no one in our lives gets the best of us!

Most people don't feel they spend too much time with family or friends and too little at work. To #LiveBeautifully, it is essential to build beautiful relations. Spend quality time with loved ones. When you are with them, be focused on them. Leave work at work. Appreciate and enjoy the personalities of each person. Pay attention to the little things like the similarities and differences in each person’s facial expressions. Live in the very moment.

Pillar #2 – Beautiful Experiences

Build a life around experiences, rather than possessions. Happiness brought on by material purchases fades over time; whereas, experiences become ingrained into our identity and gain value to us as time passes. Unique experiences encourage curiosity, which makes us feel connected to the world around us. So dabble in a new hobby, learn a new language, meet women who are unlike yourself, or travel; new experiences help us to grow our souls and develop a new knowledge base.

Pillars #3 – Beautiful You

To #LiveBeautifully, it is not enough to build relationships and try new experiences; it is also essential to reconnect with yourself. You are more than an employee, wife, mother, sister, daughter, and a friend. You are you! You are special and like no other individual on this planet. At a minimum, you are worth thirty minutes per day. Whether it is indulging in a new skin care routine, starting a new exercise routine, or meditating, use this time to make yourself feel beautiful. This is super important because the more beautiful you feel, the more positive interactions you have with your family and peers, and the more confident you become. Because beauty makes you feel confident and confidence amplifies beauty, you can easily see how investing time in yourself pays dividends!

Now that you know the three pillars to creating a beautiful life, I challenge you to apply them. Improve your outlook and influence those around you by taking the pledge.

The Proper Technique To Apply Skin Care Products

The Proper Technique To Apply Skin Care Products 0

I have written several times about buying products that are intended for your skin type, and I have often mention the importance of using products in the correct order (like cleansers, toners, serums, treatments, and moisturizers) but it just occurred to me that some of you may be applying these items incorrectly.

I was talking to one of my clients and she mentioned that with age, she’s developing redness on her cheeks and forehead. My first thought was that she made be developing rosacea so I asked her to send me a photo. In the photo, the red areas did not appear to be rosacea, so I asked her a few questions.

It turns out that she dots the products on her cheeks and forehead before rubbing it into her skin. Serum is highly concentrated with active ingredients. The application technique was irritating her skin. I told her the proper technique to use, and after a few days, the redness and irritation was gone.

What is the proper technique?

When it comes to serums and moisturizers, don’t apply in dots but rather apply to your fingertips, rub together with the opposite fingertips. Then apply an even amount to face and neck using soft upward strokes.

Be sure to always purchase products that were formulated for your skin type and to follow the instructions on the package.

Try this tip and I’m sure you will see better results!

GMOs In Your Skin Care Products Could Be Making You Sick

GMOs In Your Skin Care Products Could Be Making You Sick 0

Today I am going to talk to you about something that is very close to my heart. I apologize in advance because this email is a little longer than usual but I have so much I want to say about this topic.

As a clinical scientist, I have spent a lot of my career working with genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and studying how they affect people. For many populations, there are a lot of benefits to genetically modifying organisms; however, I believe that if GMOs can be avoided, they should.

GMOs are plants and other living organisms that undergo manipulation of altered genetics. This process is done in hopes to make that organism more appealing to consumers. Some brands of apples, for example, have been genetically modified so that they will not turn brown after slicing.

The FDA has concluded that there is no evidence that bioengineered food or plant ingredients are less safe than those produced through conventional methods. However, the long term effects have not been studied and several independent studies has concluded that GMOs pose health risks.

One health risk that has been linked to GMOs is called Morgellons disease. Those with this disease experience a crawling, biting, or stinging sensation beneath the skin. Research initially conducted by Dr. Joe Cummins, Professor Emeritus at the University of Western Ontario, found that those with Morgellons disease tested positive for agrobacterium. This bacterium is used to make many GMP products and is capable of genetically transforming to affect humans.

But Morgellons disease isn’t the only reason to avoid GMO skin care products. Here are some other reasons to consider:

Safety.

GMOs were first explored in 1996. It is difficult to know what the long-term effects are.

Known health risks.

Aside from Morgellons disease, there are other health risks associated with the usage or consumption of GMOs. When organisms are genetically modified, the certain genes are forced to behave differently. This means that GMO products are more likely to release allergens and induce allergic reactions than non-GMO products.

Toxicity from pesticides and herbicides.

Some GMO products have been modified to produce their own pesticides and herbicides while others require an excessive amount for the seeds to grow. These toxic chemicals have negative impacts on humans and have been proven to cause digestive health issues and cancer.

Dermal Dab was founded on the principle of promoting healthy skin. It is our belief that healthy skin, healthy living, and healthy relationships are the foundation to living a beautiful life. As such, we believe that genetically modified organisms should be avoided whenever possible.

We use non-GMO, cruelty-free, natural, high-quality ingredients…so you can buy with confidence!

2 Ingredient Eye Cream to Make at Home

2 Ingredient Eye Cream to Make at Home 0

The delicate skin around the eyes is one of the first places to show visible signs of aging. Dark circles, puffiness, and wrinkles around the eyes can make an individual look older than their true age. The reason for this is because the skin surrounding the eyes has minimal blood flow and natural oils due to lack in collagen and elastin fibers and sebaceous glands.

Making small lifestyle adjustments can make a big difference.

Get plenty of sleep.

Sleep depravation causes the retention of blood and/or fluid around the eyes, resulting in dark circles and/or puffiness. It is important to get plenty of uninterrupted sleep at night.

Minimize alcohol and salt consumption.

Alcohol consumption and a diet high in salt leads to water retention and increased puffiness around the eyes. Moderate alcohol and sodium intake; elect for water and antioxidant-rich foods instead.

Avoid sun exposure.

The sun is your skin’s enemy! To reduce the rate of aging, minimize puffiness, and dark exacerbation of dark circles, apply SPF 30 or higher and wear sunglasses whenever appropriate.

Properly remove makeup every night.

When worn for prolong periods of time, makeup becomes an eye irritant. Remove makeup with a gentle makeup remover, then, using gentle strokes, cleanse the entire face with a fragrance-free cleanser.

Assess and treat allergies.

Exposure to allergens can cause puffiness. Talk to your physician about using medications or eye drops to minimize allergy symptoms.

Coffee Grinds (used or new)

Grape Seed Oil

Stimulating our skin with caffeine will invigorate dull skin and increase blood circulation. Grape seed oil is an excellent way to hydrate and moisturize this delicate area. Combine coffee grinds and grape seed oil. Place in the refrigerator until the coffee grinds are softened and chilled. Gently massage mixture directly under eyes. Rinse and pat dry.

4 Easy Simple Steps To Hydrate Oily Skin Without Causing Breakouts

4 Easy Simple Steps To Hydrate Oily Skin Without Causing Breakouts 0

If you are someone who has oily but flaky skin, this article is for you! This combination of skin problems is characterized by dry or flaky skin with a layer of oil sitting on top and visible blemishes. Although not exclusive, this phenomenon typically affects those between the ages of 20s to 40s years old. Having dehydrated, dry, and oily skin at that same time is a difficult combination to handle. Combine that with the complication of acne breakouts and the problem seems impossible to solve! However, treatment is actually easier than you may think.

Here are 4 simple ways to hydrate oily skin without causing breakouts.

  1. Avoid using a harsh, facial cleanser.

Many cleansers that target acne often contain harsh detergents or chemicals that are designed to dry up pimples; however, they also dry out the entire face. By using these types of products, you may see temporary results, but ultimately the acne and oil will return worse than before.

This is because drying out the entire face will result in creating a layer of dead skin cell buildup, which can trap oil and bacteria under the skin causing more bumps and breakouts. Moreover, when oily skin that becomes dry, the cells overproduce oil to compensate for the dryness, resulting in very oily, shiny, acne skin.

To avoid this phenomenon, choose a facial cleanser that is sulfate and benzoyl peroxide free as both of those ingredients will result in dryness. Within 60 seconds, apply the second step of your skin care routine to prevent drying from the evaporation of water.

  1. Always use an alcohol-free toner after cleansing to give your skin a boost of hydration.

The second step of your skin care routine should include the application of an alcohol-free toner. Toners are the best way to deeply hydrate all types of skin. Because oily skin has excess oil beneath the surface layers (which is the reason that pores become clogged), it requires water. Toners penetrate deeper layers of the skin to deliver the water that those cells need.

Immediately after completing this step, apply a serum to treat specific problems (such as acne) or proceed to the third step of applying a moisturizer.

  1. Use an oil-free moisturizer that has anti-bacterial properties.

Moisturizers lock in the moisture, prevent drying, and stabilize oil production. It is very important part of treating oily skin; however, finding a good moisturizer for acne-prone skin can be a difficult task.

Avoid using moisturizers containing clogging ingredients like petroleum, mineral oil or silicones like dimethicone can be counter-productive. Facial moisturizers for acne-prone skin should be oil-free and contain anti-bacterial properties. These two properties will reduce the likelihood of future breakouts.

  1. Always use products that are designed for your skin type.

To get the most out of the products, it is important to use products that were formulated for your skin type. If you notice any of the following after using particular products, you should consider a change:

  • Stings and/or burns. If a product makes your skin sting or burn, it is not formulated for your skin type.
  • Leaves a greasy residue. Moisturizers that leave a greasy residue are not ideal for your skin type.
  • Leaves your skin feeling tight and dry. Products that make your skin feel tight or dry after usage are not suitable for your skin type.
  • Becomes easily irritated. Using skin care products that irritate the skin actually increase the rate in which you age.
  • Makes you excessively oily. Using harsh products formulated for oily skin can dehydrate the skin causing it to produce more oil in an effort to balance itself.

And that’s it! By following these 4 easy steps you will lock in the moisture, prevent drying, stabilize oil production, and prevent pimple formation.
